Unfortunately, despite high sales on the title, which peaked at 400,000 copies, Loeb and Churchill were themselves lured away from River Horse by Awesome Comics. Despite three successful issues of HIP FLASK'S CRIME FILES, written by Scott Lobdell with art by Jae Lee, the comics industry was imploding, and Hip Flask regrettably joined the ranks of dozens of books which were missing shipping and leaving retailers battered and bruised.
